This fine art print captures a vast frozen expanse stretching toward the horizon as dawn begins to break. The original painting was made before my Arctic residency in Greenland and Baffin Island, at a time when I was trying to understand why the Arctic exerted such a powerful draw on me. It is less a direct response to a lived experience and more a distillation of a dream—a sense of the North imagined rather than observed.

I was fascinated by how frozen water is often patterned with luminous pale blue pressure cracks and fissures and used these to lead the eye toward the horizon, where the first flush of sunrise warms the sky with soft pinks and oranges. Even now, after my time in the Arctic, this image still holds the immense stillness and spaciousness I was searching for—a quiet that lingers at the edge of experience.
