The Gathering Light — Fine Art Arctic Landscape Print

This fine art print evokes the serene beauty of dawn breaking over the Ilulissat Icefjord in Western Greenland.

In September 2018, I spent an extraordinary day in Ilulissat, a fjord located 250 km north of the Arctic Circle. In 2004, it was named a UNESCO World Heritage site for its natural beauty and the significance of the fast-moving Jacobshavn Glacier, which floods the fjord with ice. The experience was astonishing—on a still and clear day, we kayaked amidst the ice-choked waters of the fjord, surrounded by a silent, otherworldly landscape.

The Gathering Light was painted soon after my return and depicts a memory from our dawn arrival at the fjord: a flotilla of drifting icebergs silhouetted against the inky blue of the coast, all illuminated by the pure, crisp light of the brightening Arctic sky.
